Sports Chiropractic

Whether you’re a diehard CrossFitter, weekend warrior, collegiate ball player or other type of athlete, you want to be at your athletic best. Getting preventative chiropractic care is a great place to start. Dr. Taylor Sparks provides exceptional sports chiropractic to patients at Southern Chiropractic and Wellness Center.

How Does Chiropractic Help Athletes?

Chiropractic restores proper alignment to joints and allows them to function properly. Chiropractic can also help prevent many injuries. “We can help get the injured joint back to where it should be and get it moving properly. The soft tissue then heals around the aligned joint, helping ensure you won’t keep reinjuring the same body part,” said Dr. Taylor.
While some athletes get adjusted once they are in pain, taking a preventative approach by getting adjusted before there are any issues is ideal. When you can function properly and everything is moving as it should, you can be the best in your sport.

Another major benefit of chiropractic for athletes is that it’s a non-invasive and drug-free way to relieve pain and regain function.

Stay in the Game With Taping

Unlike a tape that provides structure, RockTape, a premium kinesiology tape, provides a neurological component. “Just having the tape on a body part, allows your brain to pay more attention to that area. When your brain is more aware, it causes you to function differently. You will recognize poor posture, or compromising positions faster with the tape applied than you would without it” said Dr. Taylor. Let’s say you have a shoulder injury. Your body’s more aware of that shoulder, so it will know if you move it wrong or irritate it in any way.

The tape also assists with healing. When the tape is applied, it creates a small gap between the skin and the muscle layers beneath it. That is generally the area where there is a lot of swelling. Because the use of tape creates that small space, the body has room to get a lot of the swelling out of the area, which can actually speed up the healing process.
It’s no wonder so many athletes utilize this kind of taping. It can prevent injury, and assist in the healing process if injury does occur.
